Area de Salud No. 19 Guamaní, in the south of Quito

This busy health center in the far south of Quito is looking for volunteers who are already professionals in medicine, or in their last years of medical school. The center receives up to 400 patients daily, in a variety of areas provided by the center: general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, obstetrician, odontology, alternative and traditional medicine, acupuncture, homeopathic medicine, psychology, births, 24 hr emergency medicine, and laboratory. Almost daily the doctors also do home visits to patients and a volunteer could be involved in that.

Depends on the student’s experience and interests, but volunteers can get involved in any of the medical areas above. Volunteers would be matched with a doctor, nurse or Ecuadorian medical student to assist in their daily schedule, help them during rotations and do medical procedures that you feel comfortable with.

Additionally, the center is interested receiving students of sociology, psychology, social work, or public health to help in the outreach programs to surrounding communities.
The center is also looking for volunteers who are interested in doing investigations and research with the patients who seek medical attention, in a variety of subjects.
