Generally, students are given a much greater degree of responsibility than at home which means you can gain a lot of experience quickly. You will be expected to jump in and help out in this underfunded and understaffed hospital setting. |

The population of Esmeraldas is predominantly black, descended from slaves who escaped from a ship run aground, mixed with mestizos and the original Chachi inhabitants. Students find that although it is a very poor town, it is rich in culture and overwhelmingly friendly and engaging. Because it is very poor there is some crime, but sensible precautions help to avoid problems. |
