Project Description: |
The Cerro Blanco Protected Forest is the project of Fundación Pro- Bosque, a not for profit organization that works to protect, conserve and rejuvenate native forests in Ecuador. The area of Cerro Blanco is tropical dry forest, and contains various peaks and natural fresh water pools.
Cerro Blanco carries out environmental education projects with schools, visitors to the park and the general community to encourage a better understanding of, and responsible attitudes towards the natural world surrounding them. |
Range of Tasks: |
The tasks and projects that volunteers can assist with at Cerro Blanco include:
- Native tree nursery – Assist in the nursery that specializes in producing native dry forest trees for use in local reforestation projects. Help collect and process seeds, plant and water seed beds and monitor ongoing projects.
- Wildlife rescue and rehabilitations – assist with the care of monkeys, parrots, macaws and other species of wildlife donated or confiscated by the authorities.
- Community environmental education - depending on level of Spanish proficient volunteers can assist with Cerro Blanco’s environmental education projects in the neighboring community of Puerto Hondo.
- Website and graphic design, office work – volunteers can also assist with the administration and promotional aspects of the organization.
Students of related fields can also develop topics for research and internships in conjunction with Cerro Blanco. |
