The Escuela Fiscal Amable Arauz boys´ school has around 600 students who come from more or less stable families (not to say that there aren´t any problems in their homes), with a large percentage of poor families and the others middle-class.
At this school, students receive English classes on Tuesday and Thursdays morning. The volunteer can help during the English classes of the 7th level students (last grade in elementary school). In this level they need the most help because the students are about to go to high school and it is important that they have an adequate level of English beforehand. There are around 36 to 40 students per class.
The volunteer will assist the English teacher with tasks such as; help create educational materials, grade homework and exams, and assist during the classes by handing out assignments, teaching basic vocabulary and verbs, and introducing games and activities.
If the volunteer desires, it is possible to combine this with work at the school Escuela Fiscal de Niñas Abelardo Flores during the other days of the week. These schools are both in Conocoto, around 30 minutes by bus from the center of Quito.
