Support the economic and social development activities of Ambato’s civil corporation.

Ambato and surrounding areas, 3 hours south of Quito

Corpo Ambato is a civil organization that works in Ambato and the surrounding areas to facilitate the economic development of the region.  They do this through working associatively with a variety of small businesses, small producers and artisans, and organizations.  They work to help the economic development and improve profits of these local businesses through micro-finance, marketing, analysis of profits and goods, and workshops to better capacitate the organizations. Volunteers can help the organization through:

• Training and workshops in business models, increased profits and efficiency, and marketing
• Developing business plans for these small businesses
• Helping with marketing and promotion of the products of these businesses
• Providing increased information to these businesses about how to best increase profits and efficient practices, analyze the markets and provide marketing strategies
• Working to develop strategic plans for the economic development of Ambato and the region

There is a broad range of task that volunteers can undertake with Corpo Ambato.  These will depend on the individual’s skills set, experiences and interests, and the projects that Corpo Ambato is undertaking at any time.  

Volunteers can assist in the fields of economics, sociology, accounting, finance, education and programs development and evaluations. There is also scope for students to undertake their practicum, or develop internships or research projects in conjunction with Corpo Ambato.

Intermediate Spanish

Corpo Ambato would particularly like volunteers with an existing knowledge in economics, business, accounting or finance in order to help these small businesses and organizations increase their profits, improve their marketing, and create business plans.

Ambato is a medium sized city of around 200,000 inhabitants located 3 hours south of Quito in the Central Andes of Ecuador. The people of Ambato are a mixture of indigenous and mestizos. The area surrounding Ambato is one of the most densely populated in Ecuador and there is a continual migration from these areas into the city.

Ambato is over shadowed by continually active Volcano Tungurah and is centrally located in Ecuador, close to the attractions of Baños, Cotopaxi, Laguna de Quilatoa, and is an easy jumping off point to the Amazon region to the east, or the Coastal region to the west.
